This four-part festival, presented in spring 2011, is designed to celebrate the imagination and skill of contemporary American composers, observing the contributions of master composers as well as the new generation of emerging American masterpieces. Each concert is thematically sculpted, allowing the listener to follow a distinct musical concept as it relates to the identity of ‘American’ music.

The Minneapolis-based contemporary music group Ensemble 61 presents a concert of new and experimental French and German music at Studio Z in St. Paul, Minnesota. The concert features Shaw, flutist Linda Chatterton, pianist Matthew McCright, percussionist Erik Barsness and guitarist Jesse Langen and includes music by Wolfgang Rihm, Helmut Lachenmann, Hans Thomalla, Tristan Murail, Matthias Pintscher, Olivier Messiaen and Philippe Hurel.

Glorious Revolution's all-star instrumental ensemble welcomes vocal talent from the Twin Cities' top professional choirs to bring the audience the playful and passionate madrigals that form the cornerstone of Monteverdi's musical legacy. Shaw sings and directs the ensemble.
